Engine issue

Featured Replies

Hi all

Have a 2011 mk3 focus with the 2.0l 163bhp engine

Engine has ran like a dream the last 2 and half years I've owned it. Started it this morning and heard a putting sound from engine and bad smell of fumes.

Opened bonnet and found this (see pictures attached) seems to be coming from left hand side.

Any common issues around here or is engine shot?

Rubber bit had melted so pulled it off

You are going to need to replace the cover before the diesel fumes kills you !!

Ford part number: Injector cover 9682444080

Use by many manufactures on many different cars.

Yes not driving the car until issue is fixed but looks like an oil leak or something I would need to fix first before replacing that cover?

Cheers for the reply

Does that smell like oil ?

It looks more like years of baked on diesel fuel, which would mean a slight leak of possibly one of the injector seals.

Agreed, looks like a diesel leak. Maybe over time the diesel has degraded the plastic cover which has now finally collapsed and exposed the problem. However the, presumably new, 'putting' sound probably needs explanation. Maybe its the sound of the leaky injector which can now be heard as the cover has gone.

No doesn't smell like oil it smells of diesel fumes also there's a bit of bluish smoke from the left hand side. So it sounds like a leaky injector?

Ticks all the boxes. See if you can see where the smoke is coming from.
