Automatic application of parking brake

Featured Replies

I have a 2019 Focus ST120 auto, 8 speed box. After driving the car and coming to a stop, car in auto hold, in drive, then switch engine off, vehicle goes into park automatically but, park brake does not always automatically apply.  Anyone else experiencing this please?

Totally normal. The vehicle will only apply the electric parking brake if it detects that it is parked on an incline above a certain % (Don't know what the value is).

With the auto transmission in Park it would take a tremendous amount of force to actually be able to move the vehicle, and even then the front wheels won't rotate. I hardly ever apply the parking brake (never have on any auto).

As a teenager I spent much time in the USA where all the cars I drove were autos, all were simply paced in 'park' on leaving the vehicle. I doubt many Americans would even know where their handbrake is...
