Ford Focus Mk 3.5 Automatic

Featured Replies

I’ve been looking to buy a Ford Focus mk3.5 automatic years between 2016-2018 either the 1.0 eco or the 1.5 eco. But a bit worried that it might have the dreaded power shift gearbox in it. Does anyone have any knowledge to what gearbox  is fitted.

I'd be far more worried about even thinking about buying a 1.0 Ecoboom engine than any possible gearbox problem.

Hi Jack,

No doubt one of our gearbox experts will be along in due course, but afaik it is the powershift. If you have a good look around the forum there are a number of threads on this subject.

As Unofix mentions, you might be more worried though when you see the number of threads regarding problems with the 1.0 ecoboost engines, and several now on the 1.5 ecoboost also..

They're not powershifts by then in the 1.0 and 1.5 petrol.

The 1.5 & 2.0 Diesels kept powershift until the car finished

The 1.0 auto is a 6F15 and the 1.5 is a 6F35, both ***** awful, clunky, jerky and slippy

Thanks for advice Guys 😁. I would get a bmw but out of my price range unfortunately. That’s why I thought of a focus. I currently own a Mk 3 focus hatch but I need to upgrade to a estate and was thinking of getting a auto.

If you can find a Focus Mk4 estate auto 2.0 diesel then it is about as safe/reliable as you can get. The 1.5 diesel auto also seems fine although one or two people feel the gear changes are not as smooth as they would like.

Yes, go for the 1.5 Diesel MK3.5, the powershift was sorted by then, good performance and very, very good MPG. Just change the transmission oil at the correct intervals and you won't have issues

But, to be fair, you'll pick up a decent 3 series 318D auto for not much more
