ford focus mk2 1.8l drive shaft to gearbox gaiter replacement

Featured Replies

Hi i need to replace the rubber dust seal/gaitor on my ford focus mk2 1.8l petrol 2007 car i am quite a competant mechanic but have never done this job before ,is it straigtforward job to do and do i need any special tools ,apart from the replacement gaitor and clips do i need anything else, thanks lee

It's easier to replace the driveshaft whole tbh.

Individual boots are messy & awkward.  And if it's not a universal stretch boot, you have to remove the CV joint first which is a pain.

You'll need some CV grease, but that's generally supplied with boots.

If you do go down the route of replacing it yourself do some research into the price of Ford parts.

Know with my ST it’s actually cheaper to buy the kit for the whole driveshaft (both boots) than to buy just the one that failed.
