MK II CVT 1.6TDCi awkward performance problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have an 1.6 TDCi CVT MK II Sedan.

My engine was totaled over 1 year ago and we replaced it with another engine which engine code is DV6TED4.

My problem is, before we change the engine my car was able to reach 180-220km easily there was no performance issue. Now my car is barely reach 170km and it's cumbersome.

Especially when I turn on the A/C, it takes 10 seconds to move on 30 degree ramp. It stays 1000 rpm for 10 seconds and after it moves very slowly.

Without A/C it's still slow. Even 1.3 diesel powered cars passes me in the traffic, very bad ramp performance. I'm about to go crazy.

Injectors are new, turbo is new, intercooler pipes are new. Everything is new I don't know what is the problem.

Note : 2 years ago I was using sound system in my car and I faced with the same issue as today.
Sound system was not powerfull at all, it was a stereo amplifier 1400w pioneer subwoofer, and 2 pioneer tss-20 thats all. I decided to sell my car because of performance issue so I removed the amplifier and others the car returns back to normal performance.

Today I realised that I have few led lights, some electronic accessories in my car and I will remove all of them and test it tomorrow morning.
I hope this is the problem because I don't know what to do if it's not.

Any other ideas?

Please don't blame me for I am spending too much money and time on this car. It worths 12.000£ in my country.

As no-one has responded to you yet I'll offer my opinion, although I'm definitely not an expert. It sounds as if the car is in "limp mode" and I think you need to get it checked for fault codes. If you have access to a laptop PC running Windows you can do this yourself by downloading the free Forscan and buying a suitable cable to connect to the OBD port. The experts on this forum generally recommend Tunnelrat Electronics for this. There are two styles, one has a manual switch to change between the high-speed and medium-speed CAN buses, the other, slightly more expensive, switches automatically. There's also one called vLinker which switches automatically and I believe supports a faster transfer rate. I can only vouch for the manual one, which I have, and it works perfectly fine.

Hopefully one of the pro's will be along soon with suggestions.

Are you sure it was the correct engine?  Not a 90ps instead of 110?

Also, we don't have many CVT's in the UK, I'm wondering whether the problem could be with the transmission?  Does it seem to be stuck in too high a 'gear'?

170k = 105mph - that's not limp home mode - Limp home mode will max out at about 45mph (well, mine used to).

Don't know how he ever got 220 k (=136mph) out of it!

Limp mode works differently on different cars.  I managed 70mph in limp on the Mk2 1.6 TDCI.  Torque was considerably restricted though so it took an age to get there.

I've met somebody an expert on cars, I did the same thing you said. We took some test and he read the data he said the problem could be selonoid valve or some pressure leak on any of the pipes. I will go to the turbo service on Saturday.

Why is 220km too much for Focus? Idk, but my car reaching  220km before we change the engine.

Yes, I don't know about car engines but when I search on the internet with the engine code it says 240nm 109PS same as stock engine.

Also, the garage that I bought the engine said its a 109ps engine.

Transmission seems fine, its all about performance problem. On the road car goes fine when you try to floor it on ramp or you want more speed, engine does not provides enough power.
