Cambelt change?

Featured Replies

Just realised that it might be time for a cambelt change on my 2013 Focus Econotec? It's done just over 114,000 miles.

Not sure if it was done before I bought it on 75,000 so assume I should get it done? Local garage has quoted £390 as they change the water

pump at the same time, does this sound about the right sort of price?

Just to confirm, it's a 1.6 TDCi, yes?

If so, that price sounds fine.  And you're right, 10 years or 112,500 miles recommended interval.

Yes it's the 1.6 TDCi so I'd better get it booked in then !!

Should be about 3-4 hours work.

If they’re not busy, and you take it in the morning, it could be done by close of play.

Usually the following day is more normal.

Thanks, taking it in at 8 when they open so hopefully by end of play.

Replacing water pump at same time -  there is a logic to that, but I would say that if a cheap one is put in , it might fail earlier than the original Ford one might do.  So it’s not 100% guaranteed as worthwhile

I'll vouch for this, original Ford pump changed at 10 year old (48000 mile)  Replacement (non Ford but a well known brand) failed after 2000 mile, replaced under warranty for 2nd pump to fail after 2000 mile again. Bit the bullet and forked out extra for a genuine Ford pump.  You live and learn !
