Featured Replies

really getting fed up with me wifes focus mk3 at mo

right theres 3 bolts to hold Aux. tension pulley on 1 of the gudie bolt thats attached to engine has snapped would it be ok with just 2 bolts extra tight

or 2. alloy weld it back on ( probably expensive if i can find someone

pic below of the snapped off piece

also the reason im changing alternator the clutch pulley came off as seized and the spring inside wrapped round my belt and chewed through it snapping the crankshaft sensor plug off as well so car cut out

If this is the part I'm thinking of, it's actually a separate bracket, rather than being part of the engine block.

Fair enough.  The triangle bolt pattern is used for strength & stability against the sprung tensioner though, I really don't think 2 bolts over-tightened or a bit of chemical metal is going to work here.

is that what alloy weld is then just chemical metal, as i had a buckled alloy wheel and when repaired they said it was alloy welded for strength...?

I dont know i was not there when it was repaired but it was quite a large buckle on the rim where it meets tyre

You can TIG weld aluminium, but I'm 99% sure you'd have to remove the bracket to do that.  Not enough space to do it in situ.  Not to mention the risks the delicate electronics around the engine.

i have removed it now  heat shield and dipstick in the way so all removed how much to tig weld do you think compared to salvage yard part?

Salvage part should cost about £20.  I reckon a welder would want £50+.  You're welcome to get a couple of quotes.
