Focus mk3 facelift petrol guage accuracy

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I wanted to check how accurate people find their petrol guage is. I know the tank is 55 litres (12 gallons roughly).  I reset all figures on the trip counter when I fill up and generally squeeze a bit more petrol in after the second click on the pump so it should be near capacity.

Currently my cars trip counter is showing 37.5 mpg and travelled 330 miles with 40 miles left in the tank. That would be equal to 10 gallons use. The petrol guage was well above the red line when it warned that 50 miles are left and it's still above the red line showing 40 miles. If the mpg is fairly accurate then I should have around 100 miles left in the tank.

I have driven it about 15 miles past 0 once but wouldn't want to risk much more. My previous mk3 focus seemed more accurate warning of 50 miles left when I got into the red line.

Does this seem fairly normal or is my petrol gauge or trip computer inaccurate?

There is normally some reserve beyond it reading empty. So the gauge might be calibrated at 50L for example.
