Loosing washer fluid

Featured Replies

Hi all. My 2015 focus Titanium is loosing washer fluid. I filled it up, and saw no obvious leak from underneath. After using the washers however, I noticed low pressure and a puddle under the reservoir.

Since the reservoir seems to hold the solution, is this likely to be a new pump?

I suspect a pipe connector has come adrift, possibly at the pump itself, but it's not easy to get to.

Is there any way to check that myself or would I need to get a garage to have a look?

There are some recent threads about how to access the washer pump, with different people having different ideas.

Here's 3 for starters.....

Wheel off, remove wheel arch liner

remove front bumper (yes, really)

remove headlight and find a small child with small hands.

I haven't tried any of these myself, so can't advise.

Seems like a garage job to me then ☺️

Hopefully they'll just diagnose a hose issue rather than the pump needing to be replaced.

Thanks for the info.

Sorry, I can't think of a way of checking without getting access to the pump as above.

The plastic bottle can also crack, especially around the seam...  Mine's cracked at the top (not a Focus).  It's been like that for the 4 years I've owned it, just means I can only fill it to 3/4's full.

The headlights are easy to remove for most people.  If you can remove the drivers side (RHS) headlight, you may be able to see the pump & hoses as well as the reservoir.
