Battery? Focus 2010 1.8 petrol estate. Mk 2

Featured Replies

Hello

Can anyone please offer some advice.

Behind my speedo cluster failed in may. I took it to a local place who re soldered the unit and reinstalled

today car will not start. it lights up and turns engine quarter turn. we dont use car a lot. but when we do often a longish journey - about 100 miles. we drive about 5000 miles a year

questions

1 could resoldering behind speedo have caused some battery drain - and would it be picked up by the roadside assistance guys?

2 what is most likely cause? could it just be old battery that has died?

any suggestions gratefully received

kind regards and thanks

It's unlikely that the repair of re soldering the cluster would have introduced another fault to drain the battery. Road assist are mainly true to name, they often don't spend time diagnosing a fault, but will get you going as quick as they can, if that involves a 'jump start', well that'll be what they do. If you feel the existing battery has died, you should try a 'jump start' yourself, then get the battery charged up as soon as you an with a battery charger.

If you feel that the car isn't starting because the immobiliser isn't releasing the start, that's a different issue, you may notice this by a consistent red LED on the dash flashing fast. Take the key out of the ignition. lock & open car with key fob, and try a restart.

Roadside came out and said it was the original 12 year old battery and it needed  replacing.

They fitted new Bosch with 5 year guarantee.

They checked charging.

All the best

Thank you StephenFord. Very kind of you to help. Much appreciated.

Wife nearly missed train today so she was anxious to get car fixed, so new battery was easiest option.

Well, we all know that's the most important thing! 🤣 Glad it all worked out...
