Is the Mk3 Technology Trim pre-wired for DRL?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

Basically the title says it all. I have a 2014 Mk3 Focus in Technology trim (halogen headlights with automatic turn on).

Can I change it plug and play for a Mk3 headlight that came with a DRL as well? Is the system "ready" for a headlight with DRL?

I've been looking for a while to get some DRL on the car, but none of the aftermarket DRLs please me.

Thanks a lot!

Steve

In the UK and most of Europe all cars were fitted with DRL's from 2011

I'm not sure how you have a 2014 Focus that does not have the DRL's already fitted. What country are you in ?

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer to your question, but I doubt it.

To pre-empt any further questions on when/whether DRLs are fitted, it's "all cars TYPE APPROVED after Feb 2011".  My car is mid 2013 and doesn't have DRLs.

Thank you guys! I guess taking down the headlight unit and checking the plug should give me some info. I assume if I have my ignition turned on with lights down one of the pins should give current if it's pre-wired, right?

DRLs became mandatory in 2014 in the uk as far as i am aware

Focus does not have standard DRLs (including wiring) til the facelift model and i've even seem some without the DRL headlights (but does have the wiring already there)

longstory short:

PFL:
Xenons = you have DRLs
Any other headlights = you do not have DRLs and you do not have DRL wiring

FL:
Most likely have DRLs
If not, you'll have the wiring though

Rowan is correct about specs but:

Ford managed to get away with not fitting DRLs to MK3.5s or auto headlamp on/off (which should've been mandatory from 2017MY)

All Xenons got DRL

The only Halogen models that got DRL were Zetec-S/ST-Line, Titanium X and base ST and Titanium from 2017MY

all other models got DRLs as an option with appearance pack (including 17" wheels and privacy glass)

Studio (base)  model never got DRLs

Thank you guys! I won't even bother with removing the headlights then to check the wires. I'l just get some other type of DRL for the car.

My 2005 Mk2 never came with DRLs LOL But, it has them now...
