Tyre sensor problems.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Im getting tyre sensor warnings on my dash.

is there a way to disable the tyre sensors?

or will I need to replace them?

Usually I just get that red (i) and warnings from the tyre sensors. ie. It says that three of my tyres are at the wrong psi, yet one is fine. However all the tyres are pumped up and at the correct psi.

Other times the warning says “tyre sensors not detected”.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Tyre pressure warning devices are now a legal requirement on car's, but not on 2004 models !!

You could remove the sensors from each wheel and possible disable the system so there is no warning but on a StreetKa I'm not sure if FORScan software would work.

I would think if the sensors have not been changed in seven years or more the batteries are probably now flat. It might just be easier and quicker to replace the sensors than to find ways to over come the warning.

My aftermarket TPMS have easily replaceable batteries which I just did all 4 last month. Are these ones also user replaceable or are they totally sealed and sensors just disposed of? (I remember watching a YouTube a while back on a BMW sensor which was a 'disposable' sensor, but the guy showed how to cut it open, scraping the internal sealant off with a knife, before he got to the battery - looked a right pain!)

If I remember right, the Ford sensors have the batteries sealed in and are not meant to be replaced.

On the other hand I do like a challenge and would probably have ago at trying to change them anyhow 🤣

Thanks!

I should have written, my car is 2009 Galaxy.

In that case, it’s probably easier for me to buy the sensors.

Are they easy to fit?

Thanks

They are if you're KwikFit, or similar. The tire needs to be eased off for fitment...

I did see a YouTube video showing how to open them up to solder new batteries in .  Also he didn’t take the tyre right off. He placed wheel flat under back of car valve facing up, beside valve on the tyres he used scissor jack between the tyre and underneath of car to push tyre down to unseat it enough to be able to unscrew sensor from valve stem bottom.  Didn’t look very easy.

Just checked online. They are £30 each! And then £10 a wheel for tyre place to fit most probably.

Im going to have to leave them for now. It’s not as if they are causing any damage to my vehicle as they are.
