2005 Focus hard acceleration limp mode

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2005 Focus 2.0 TDCI

It likes to go into limp mode during hard acceleration every time, limp mode is temporary as it does always clear through either giving it time to clear or sometimes turning it off and on again.

When going into limp mode it says engine systems fault.

We've bought an OBD2 reader and it shows no fault codes.

We've tried to rectify it by removing the EGR valve and cleaning it. This made no difference.

We've replaced the fuel filter which seems to have made the car run smoother but still goes into limp mode.

Any thoughts on what to try next?

Any thoughts at all?

Any tips?

Please?

Send help or send gin and cake 😃

You need to get forscan and read codes to get the correct code and then it can be determined. It could be a boost pipe or something but forscan is the best reader.

Thankyou!

So the forscan arrived today and I have this series of codes

P0380-78

P0088-61

P120E-61

P0406-B1

B1342-20

P1628-20

B2899-0F

So my next question is....is this terminal?

Are any of these life ending for my car?

If not is there anywhere I should start?

Not me!

But mum and dad have informed me that she was a bit of a busy body in crossroads in the 70s.

I'm assured that it's turtle dove as in love and not caus they think I'm a busy body 😂

Like most things, some DTC's are more of an immediate problem than others. Now that you have the list, use FORScan and clear all the codes. Some of those will be old and will probably not come back.

P0380-78 needs fixing, not urgent. Glow plug heater fault.

P0081-61 needs investigating now. Problem with high pressure fuel rail.

P120E-61 needs investigating now. Probably caused by the same thing as P0081

P0406-B1 needs fixing. Fault with the EGR sensor

P1342-20 could be serious. Fault with the ECU-- Might require a serious amount of Gin !

P1628-20 possibly caused by the ECU fault.

P2899-0F not sure of this code. Again probably caused by P1342

Start by clearing the codes and take the car for a drive (if possible) see how many of those DTC's come back.

Thank you so much!

I've cleared the codes and it'll be off for a drive this morning

I settled for cake last night rather than gin -experience tells me rocking up to work with a gin hangover is not the wisest 😂😎
