Help fault codes!

Featured Replies

Hi new member here, hope I’m posting in the right place…

I have a recurring orange engine light that my local garage (2 of them actually), have claimed to have cleared but they keep popping up after a week or so.
they appear to be preventing the auto stop-start function and it’s driving me mad,

I’ve googled and googled and despite changing the sensor on the air box as well as the two pressure sensors at the front of the engine, the fault won’t go away.

please can anyone tell me what I need to replace…I’m desperate to avoid my local dealer after being totally ripped off last year…

thanks so much!

Lol, thanks for the update.  This is the right section, but you might want to change your profile before Unofix sees a Fiesta profile in the Focus section.

I didn't think there was an oil temp sensor in the 1.0EB, but as yours is the re-designed engine it may well have one.  Hopefully someone else can confirm that.  Can't remember seeing any others with those codes on here.

I do wonder if those codes are red herrings though.  Usually we recommend Forscan as a cheap, home based, alternative to a Ford dealer.  That may pick up codes that are not readable by the generic scanner.

I've excommunicated people for less 🤣

Hello Alex, before we dive too much in to the codes you have, is the real concern that your 'Stop/Start' system isn't working as you would like it to ?

  • Author

yes, the stop start is definitely not working and I’m convinced the car is not as responsive as it was a few weeks ago..it’s always a bit unnerving to have the check engine light on too…and maybe I’m imagining the performance issue…but the stop start is definitely not working! Get the diagonal strike-through on the stop start icon on the digital bit of the dash

And warning taken…have updated my profile from my old fiesta!!!!!!

I could write a book on the failure of Stop/Start systems but it would bore most normal people to death.

So I'll try and keep this short. Firstly Stop/Start was only invented by manufactures as a way to get their vehicles through the type emissions testing. In real life driving it offers no benefit.

At around the same time it became popular to fit the Stop/Start gimmick to meet emissions tests, manufactures also found that having the car alternator only charge the battery to 80% of it's capacity would also shave another minuscule amount off the emissions.

This is where the root of the problem lies. The two allegedly emission saving ideas work very much against each other. For Stop/Start to work the battery State Of Charge (SOC) has to be at least 70% or better. Then if it is working each time the car re-starts it takes the alternator more energy to recharge.

The fix on a Focus Mk4 is actually quite straight forward. Use the software FORScan and adjust the SOC from the default of 80% and set it to 95%. Then you need to charge the battery. After that the Stop/Start system for those who feel the need to use it will work (mostly).

Getting back to your DTC's.

As Tom has already said the P01BA code relates to oil temp, but like him it's not something I've seen come up before on the forum. The first code is again temp related but if I'm correct it concerns the incoming air.

I suspect you are in the twilight zone with your battery State Of Charge and you are getting random DTC's thrown up.

Do as Tom has suggested and download FORScan (it's free for use on a laptop) and is the closest you will get to main dealer level software. You will also need a good connecting lead. Use vLinker FS

You should charge your car battery with a smart charger for 12 hours. Be sure to connect the positive lead directly to the battery terminal. Connect the negative charging lead to the chassis earth point - NOT to the battery negative.

If your Autel can give you live readouts from these sensors then that would be a starting point, if not then FORScan probably will be able to.
