Mk4 Focus 2019 - heated washer jet problem

Featured Replies

I have two of these newer style heated mist jets, one for passenger side, one for drivers. They sit just under the bonnet facing the front windscreen and have the slots rather than holes.  The passenger side sprays 2 fan shaped jets. However the drivers side is only spraying 1 spray.  The spray is strong but no sign of anything coming from the other.

Any ideas what the fault may be?  Are the two jets electrically independent of each other or is this more likely to be a blocked nozzle?

Does anyone know the part number for this?

Thanks

It's just a blocked nozzle, it happens all the time.

They are a real pain to clear. You need to remove the nozzle assembly from the car (it just unclips) and pull the pipe off (not easy).

Use an old toothbrush and run the nozzle under a running tap while using the toothbrush in a stabbing motion. You are effectively trying to get one of the nylon bristles of the brush to clear the very small jet hole.

I've had to do this to twice now.

Thanks for that, hopefully a cheap fix then.  I will have a look tomorrow.   Can't think of anything better to unclog it. I wonder if some drain cleaner or solvent might drain through.  Just a thought.

Further to this I've now managed to unclip the jet assembly and have tried to clean it without undoing it from the pipework.  No luck so far.

I can see under the bonnet insulation these go back to a T junction with a single pipe to the jet. Therefore it makes sense that water to the jet should come from both holes unless one was blocked.  The jet says 'heated' on it, but neither jet assembly either nearside or offside has any electrical wiring to it. That's got me puzzled looking at replacement parts which appears to show a two wire electrical connection heating water as it leaves the jet. Its a 2019 Focus Vignale.

If you are sure that you are getting warm water out of the nozzles then that to me would say that the water is being heated further down in the pipe work, either by an heater module in the pipe line or by a module in the water bottle. One of the more knowing members will no doubt be able to tell us.

Ford just use the same generic plastic molding for the screen wash jets whether they are heated or not. The heated jets actually have a little resistor fitted which gets plugged in to a harness.

If your jets have no wires/plug then you don't have heated jets.

Just a quick update on this as it may help someone searching in future.  Thanks for those who contributed.

OK so my car, a 2019 Focus Vignale had a newer type of washer jet ihad never had before. There are two jet assemblies that sit attached to the bonnet pointing at the screen.  You can see a circular jet with two little horizontal slats and a single vertical one.  When you press the screen wash you should get two jets from each.  My drivers side only sprayed one.

I tried cleaning the little slats no luck.  I then decided to remove the jet assembly and try and clean it off the car.  I cleaned with a little brush, a sharp pointer, dripped cleaning chemicals, meths, very hot water, no improvement.

Consequently I now have a new part coming from my dealer who said you can never clean them!

Removing the jet is easy.  Lift the bonnet.  The rectangular top of the jet assembly just unclips by pushing forward and down. I can see some people have trouble trying to unclip the pipe from the jet assembly. Don't.  Unfasten the bonnet felt insulation.  The jet assembly now has a pipe that goes back to a T junction just a few inches back.  The jet assembly and short pipe come as a piece. Part number as above.  At the T junction a little black C clip slides back allowing easy removal of the pipe.  No need to be forcing the pipe off.

My jet assembly is marked 'heated'.  I thought I had heated washers being a Vignale as I had on a previous Tit X.  No, so there is no electrical wiring.

The part is about £7.50 brand new so barely worth faffing around trying to clean one.

Hi, I have a Focus Active 2020 and have had blocking windshield jets.

The part is SN JX7Z17603A   PN 2 235 729

I repaired by using 4mm ID plastic hose.

To release from the right angle, lift the black sleeve.

Clean the jet by using the thread end of a needle to clear and then blow through.
