Duratech 1.8 focus mk2 destroyed spark plugs

Featured Replies

Hello grease monkeys 🤙

my focus mk2.5 1.8 petrol has been running like *****. Misfiring and hesitating. I changed the spark plugs and discovered 3 out of 4 have destroyed themselves after just 8k miles.

what would cause the spark plugs to destroy themselves in this way??

it does get driven pretty hard sometimes and revved out.

thanks for reading!

My first thought would be that they're not the right plugs for your engine? It looks like they're Russian??

My second thought would be about those bits of metal that have broken/burnt off and may still be rattling around in each cylinder.

Are you sure there the right plugs. Hate to see what the piston tops look like

I put my reg in on euro and just bought the recommended Bosch plugs. Didn’t even think to double check to be honest.

What’s the best way of checking if they are the right ones lads? I just bought a service kit when I got the car 8k miles ago.

They may be correct, it's just suspicious that they're Russian.. the fuel over there tends to be lower octane than what we use in the UK (92 is the most popular) and there's a big market in grey parts (fake or substandard parts).

Maybe check your reg at https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-parts/ignition/spark-plugs/ and see if it comes up with the same ones.

Looks like the OE part number is 1639704.  You could compare visually, length, thread count etc.
