2008 Ford Focus making a crunchy hissy noise, louder when clutch is pressed

Featured Replies

Hi,

It makes the sound the whole time the engine is on, and gets louder/deeper when the clutch is down. My description of the sound isn't great so I've recorded it here. This was recorded when the car was sitting on the drive, and you can hear the sound change as the clutch is pressed.

I'm guessing the clutch needs replacing and I'm calling the garage on Monday, but in the meantime it would be good to know if it seems like I'm right, based on this. The car drives fine aside from the noise, but I won't drive it again until I have to take it to the nearby garage.

I'd really appreciate any views on whether this sounds like a clutch  replacement will be needed. Thanks!

Hard to tell from clip but sounds like noise from clutch release bearing
