Mk4 focus driver's door lock replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all. Just swapped by old 1.8 TDCI focus for a 1.0 stline-x which is brilliant bar a few niggles, 1 being the horn not working but will look into that another time (hopefully just the fuse as got through the mot a month ago)

Major issue is I realised after buying the car it doesn't have the emergency key and stupidly thought ford could cut blanks from the vin but apparently not.

Worried if battery dies i wont be able to gain access to the car.

So brought a new cylinder for the driver's door with two keys from ford and wondered if anyone here was changed this lock? I can't seem to find anything online / YouTube

Can I do it just from the side access panel on door or is it a whole door card off situation?

It's very good to know that they can't cut keys from the VIN given the fact it is on full display in the windscreen for everyone to see !!

Are you saying the metal key blade is missing from inside both of the keyfobs supplied with a 2018 car ? To loose one from one inside the keyfob is bad enough but to loose the metal blade from both keyfobs is extreme bad luck.

Well obviously you would have to prove u own the car etc (like u r 'supposed' to do with number plates etc) but yes I suppose when u put it like that it does make sense.

Well they didn't have the second fob either (who knows why) came with a replacement aftermarket fob which went straight in the bin.  Yeah bad luck, bet half the people don't even know it's there!!

The emergency blade was probably in that one...

Well at least you checked...I'm sure many wouldn't!  Does beg the question how they both got lost in the first place though.  I take it you don't have the key code card either?

The reason Ford can't cut keys from the VIN is because the lock codes aren't connected to it at all, they never have been as far as I'm aware.  It would be extra hassle logistically during manufacture.  At the factory they can just chuck any key set in without having to make sure it's got a code matched to the car.  Locking wheel nuts are the same, the code for those isn't matched to the VIN either.  Codes for both the door key and the locking wheel nut key are supplied on cards with the vehicle when new.

Yeah I dismantled it took the battery out and destroyed it even though it wasn't even paired to the car (best safe than sorry)

Got the key card for the locking wheel nuts but nothing for the emergency key.

Hopefully it won't be too difficult to swap
