Battery voltage using dash trick

When I do the dash trick what should the battery be at with engine running mine is 12.3v

    It can be about 12.5V give or take 1V

    The instrument cluster volt readout is almost totally useless as a battery monitor. It is really only a means to see an approximate voltage on the instrument cluster not the actual vehicles true operating voltage.

    Or... you could splash out £7, get a multi meter, and have a truly useful tool in your toolbox, even if all you ever use it for is testing batteries (car & domestic)
