Remap 1.0 125bhp

Featured Replies

Hi

I have read a lot of questions on remapping in this forum but none that I can find don’t t seem to answer the questions I’m looking for.

I am consider remapping my focus 1.0 2019 125bhp but unsure if upping the unit to 150 bhp will damage the power unit.

Are the engines 125bhp and 150bhp the same and  just separated by software or is there some hardware changes as well?

Thanks for any help I really appreciate it.

Paul

Is yours the ECOboost or ECOboost Hybrid ?

The 1.0 ECOboost is (or was) available as 100 and 125 HP. The hardware of both is 100% identical. The only difference is the software.

The 1.0 ECOboost Hybrid is available as 125 and 155 HP. The hardware of both is 100% identical. The only difference is the software.

If yours is a 125 HP ECOboost Hybrid it can easily be upgraded to 155 HP using the original software.

If yours is a 125 HP ECOboost it can not be upgraded using the original software. In this case a remap is required to improve engine power.

Mine is just the 1.0 ecoboost so will probably need remapping then, but is it safe to do so I’ve heard stories of turbos etc going as much as I would like the little etc power I am still asking myself is it worth and safe to do it.

First I would be making sure everything is serviced and especially the oil with the correct grade and checking the old oil for any bits of wet belt before doing any remapping or you will waste money. If it's healthy it should cope with 150 no problem most maps I have seen are 160 for the 125.

I can't recall seeing a post from.anyone who has had a revised Mk 4 ecoboost remapped, so you may not get much specific feedback.

However, as Ian mentions, a "conservative" remap (e.g. Superchips) to around 150-160 bhp (i.e. about the level of a standard 155) should not be problematic.

If unsure about whether it's worth it I suggest asking yourself a few questions such as:

Does the car struggle in normal driving? Up hills?

How often do you actually use wide open throttle (foot to the floor)?

How often do you hit the red line?

If the answer is mostly "no", "never" or "rarely" it's probably not worth it for you.😀

Hi, I have the 125 eco mild hybrid, how do I tweak the software to unlock the 155?

Hi, my focus mk4 125 remap to 150 hp/205 Nm. Mileage remap 2000km. Everything ok so far. The car drives very well. No hardware changed, only software. There was an offer of up to approx. 165 hp. 150 hp is enough, I am not a racer...maybe i will have the intake filter changed K&N. I will change the oil after 10000 km. Otherwise nothing, I'm satisfied.

I was looking at a similar upgrade for my puma 1.0 125 hybrid . The turbo from the 155 is different and so is the software mapping but I should be able to get within a whisker of 155 with a tdi-tuning box. Ideally a remap but a tuning box fine as I can take it off and get it reprogrammed to the next car I get.

I think you are wrong in the mild hybrid case. The 155hp version has different turbo than the 125 and also that turbo gives more trust at 190nm. If you tune the 125 to 155 it won't be the same engine.
Also i had a fiesta 100hp and a focus 125hp from around 2018 non hybrid and both had the same exact turbo (reading the code for replacement parts) but that doesn't carry over the mild hybrid ones.

Can never find things when you want them**, but I certainly got that impression when the mhev was launched. The gist of the various reports was that the electric assistance at lower speeds covered for the turbo lag that would otherwise occur when fitting the larger turbo.

**Edit: here's one from a Puma review:

Driving Experience

From a handling perspective, we can very much expect the Puma to be a Crossover first and an SUV second. Or to put it another way, it'll handle far more like a good supermini than a typical Juke or Captur-class contender. The big engineering interest here lies in the 48V mild hybrid powertrain, which in this case is based on Ford's familiar 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. Here, a conventional alternator is replaced with an 11.5kW integrated starter/generator (called a 'BISG'). The resulting powerplant is available in either 125 or 155PS guises, both versions available with a 7-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox. Like most mild hybrids, Ford's 'BISG' set-up works in a couple of ways. Either it can be used when coasting or braking to recover energy (which then gets stored in a small lithium-ion battery); or it can assist the engine during acceleration. The brand says that extra electrified assistance has enabled it to lower the engine's compression ratio and fit a larger turbocharger - which all sounds pretty promising for those in search of perky performance.

Thanks for that it’s the one thing that bothers me is it might damaged the engine doing it, but reading you have had it done makes me feel better 😃

Out of interest I have a mk4 focus 1.0 125bhp.  Who did you use for the remap?

My remap company is Profi-Chip. I am Prague from the Czech Republic. He used Alientech KESSv2 hardware for it. Software editing in WinOLS,  price is 235$. The price also includes fine-tuning, additional adjustment. Not a dyno test. I do not want it. I just need a good feeling of driving...:-)

Hi,

I have a focus mk4 125mhev and from what I have been seeing the turbo is different on the 125mhev and 155mhev.

The turbo references are:

-L1BG6K682AA for the 155mhev.

-H6BG6K682AD for the 125 mhev.

This information is taken from Ford's own database after searching the VIN of two cars.

I was looking into it as I wanted to do the map change with ucds, but seeing as the turbo is different, I won't be able to.

There are mk4 1.0 owners who are very satisfied with racechip.

I have the Ford focus 2018 1.0l ecoboost 138hp. I’ve been looking into getting it mapped is it worth it or could it damage anything I’m not to clued up in that aspect and can’t find much information about it all I know is I wouldn’t mind a little more power with it.

This thread is largely about the Mk 4 Focus which has the revised (chain cam drive) engine.

It sounds as if you have the Mk 3.5 Focus with 140ps "wet belt" engine which is the subject of much concern at present.

You can certainly get a remap from the likes of Superchips:

https://www.superchips.co.uk/ECU-Remap/Ford/Focus-MK3-2011/Petrol/ST-Line-1-0T-138-bhp/stage-1

You might want to have a look around this and other sites at the many threads on "1.0 Ecoboost wet belt problems" before making a decision.
