Looking for Real World mpg figure for Focus 1L 125 Ecoboost mHEV

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Title says it all really.

I'm looking for the "real world mpg" figure for Focus 1.0L 125 Ecoboost mHEV (and, for comparison a 1.0L 125 Ecoboost Petrol)

Honest John fas figures for the Petrol but in the summary of the Focus, has a red cross for 'No hybrid versions'.  How long has the mHEV been out *shrugs*

Can't find the info on this site so far (I'm sure it will be here somewhere).

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Zapjh

MHEV isn't really a hybrid.  Real world MPG is virtually the same between the MHEV & non-MHEV.  45-50mpg combined.

Thanks.

I know that a mHEV vehicle isn't really a hybrid (really it's just marketing) as the starter motor (or its replacement) acts as a "help" to the ICE and can't move the car by itself but merely "assist".

Is the mpg really not affected by the "help" from the electric motor (small as it is)?

There might be 1 or 2 MPG difference depending on your location and driving style but it's certainly not a major difference from what I've seen on here so far.

The electric assistance is only given when accelerating hard or driving uphill.  Under normal cruising and stop-start town traffic there's little to no assistance.  Really the benefit of the MHEV on the 125 is driveability, it gives you much more torque than the non-MHEV at lower RPMs.  Plus you save a whole £10 a year in tax as well!

Thanks once again!

Thought there was a tax incentive.

My daughter is looking for a new focus and the choice is between Petrol ICE or mHEV (and she doesn't like mHEV for some reason).

Has she driven an MHEV or just doesn't like the 'idea' of them?

I don't like the regenerative braking myself.  Makes it very difficult to drive smoothly as it feels like someone pressing the brake about half a second after you release the accelerator.

That is the future though, every hybrid or full EV uses regenerative braking as it's such an efficient way of recharging batteries.

Hi Tom,

To my knowledge, she hasn't driven an mHEV - just seems to have taken a 'dislike' to them for some reason.

Mind you, I'm not aware that she has driven the 1.0L Ecoboost 125 either!

I'll see if I can pry a decent answer out of her as to why she won't consider a mHEV.
