58 1.6tdci snapped injector clamp stud

Featured Replies

When replacing the No1 injector one of the clamp studs snapped (see pic). Is there an easy fix? Not sure how successful a extraction tool will be as the top of the thread in the head is fairly domed.

Cheers

Generally when theses break the tension dissappears, i have had much success with these in spaying a rust remover or wd onto the bolt and leaving overnight,  then i use a long pointy tool to flick it round until removed.

Goodluck

Also knock the tool in the anticlockwise direct with a small hammer to get it started

My bad, photo is misleading. Getting the bolt off isn't the issue. Getting what is left of the stud out of the head is. Unless I can helicoil it and use the broken stud?

It is possible to buy left hand helix twist drills. If the stud is not too corroded into the head it may loosen when drilled with one. If not, I think you need to very carefully drill out the stud, which is difficult with an ali head & steel stud: Start with a smaller drill to get a central hole in the steel before enlarging it, then use helicoil & probably a new, full length stud. If you have access to a lathe, it would be possible to make a guide bush to get a central hole in the steel stud.
