Bad wheel bearing, but which 1??

Featured Replies

My fiesta has a very bad wheel bearing, its gets worse with speed but totally goes away when i turn left.

Would i be right in thinking my left bearing is bad as when turning left the weight of the car loads to the right easing the pressure on the left bearing hence it going silent?

any comments welcome.  steve

Jack the front up, use axle stands, spin the wheels and listen for a droning sound.

Also try resting one hand on a suspension component whilst spinning the wheel with the other hand. Sometimes you can feel the problem through the suspension before you can hear it.

From my experience the noise gets worse when turning into the bad one. When the driver's side was bad on mines turning right would be noisier and turning left would change the tone. Also if you are doing the spin test it would be best to remove the caliper first as the brakes will grate masking the sound.
