How do you reset steering angle sensor focus mk2

Featured Replies

What’s happenin people, back with yet another problem haha

Had a crooked steering wheel for months. After 5 alignments it is still not straight.

After 3 alignments I seen my ***** because my wheel was at 11 o clock every time.

Demon tweeks fitted new suspension and done an alignment for me and when the wheel was straight, the tracking is bang on.

wheel is still crooked when you drive though. Took it to another alignment specialist who is well known in Liverpool. He said it will be the steering angle sensor. His equipment couldn’t communicate with my ODB port to do it.

background info - I coded cruise control in using ELM confit and I assume that’s why he couldn’t connect to my ECU.

does anyone know how I can reset the steering angle sensor myself using either for scan or elm config or something??

sorry about the long paragraphs but I am at my wits end with this now. Cant be arsed paying ford an arm and a leg to sort it.

thanks people.

Thanks for your help mate, can you definitely reset the steering angle sensor on these cars?

I tried it on forscan on the laptop and on forscan lite and they both say it’s not supported when I try to reset the EPS module.

How can it be a sensor fault?  The wheels are 'fixed' against the steering wheel.  The steering wheel can't just decide to turn itself even if the angle sensor is out of spec.

On the Mk3's there's some drift compensation and lane guidance, but there's nothing like that on a Mk2.

Either your wishbone bushes are knackered, so the alignment is fine on the ramp, but the moment you start driving the wishbones go slack and knock the toe out.  Or the rear alignment hasn't been done properly so it's crabbing when driving.

Now, I had this very issue last year on my Mk2 - a replacement rear sub frame had me driving straight again!!

No idea mate, it’s been in demon tweeks and another well known alignment place in Liverpool and neither of them can get the wheel to be straight when driving.

Had 5 alignments from 4 different garages in the last 6 weeks and it’s the same thing every time.

The wheel is definitely straight when it is being aligned but as soon as u start driving the wheel goes to the left a few degrees it’s very strange.

I thought the same thing when the last mechanic said it could be the steering angle sensor, I don’t see how that could affect the steering alignment.

Losing my mind trying to fix it now haha it drives fine but it’s just really annoying not having a straight wheel.

I too tried a few, 'alignment' type places, but with respect, they only check what they earn their bread & butter at, alignment. Once that doesn't work, I would take it to a proper garage (independent, not Ford!), and see exactly what is going on with your suspension. If your sub-frame is at fault, you don't want that to snap on the drive home!

Have they done rear alignment as well as front?  And are they using a Hunter machine for best accuracy?

Focus's aren't easy to get right because they have rear toe adjustment as well as front toe.

If rear has been done (and properly), the next step is finding some slack in the suspension, either front or rear.  Usually that'll be in some rubber bushes, or as in Stephens case, you could even have a rotten subframe.

Yeah demon tweeks is held in high regard, people take their track cars there all the time. They fitted new shocks and springs all round and done a 4 wheel alignment with hunter system.

Steering wheel problem was the same as every other garage that’s done an alignment though.

I will have to get my bushes, sub frame and ball joints checked now haha hopefully I find the culprit.

Just found my 'subframe' thread...
