    Infrared LED's are the answer. See alot of these used in London by the DMO wannabes LoL running around on quad bikes and rMaP'd BerEmmUU's. You can buy modded numberplate surrounds with Infrared LEDs mounted around the edge.Some cheap Chinese dashcams have them mounted forward facing as well

    Exactly, and completely unnecessary. With a handy phone mounting bracket you can fit the device directly in your line of sight above the steering wheel*. No need to look down.
