1.0 Ecoboost Focus advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi im after some advice regarding the ford focus 1.0 Ecoboost engine, ive recently been given a 2012 Ford Focus from my grandad 54k miles very well looked after and with the prices of used cars these are fetching approx 4k the only problem is it seems to be suffering the common problem they all do,its still currently running but engine is covered in oil and the longer it runs the noisier It gets my question is would this be fixable and what is needed or is a new engine the only way forwards seeing as its still running my thought process was that it could be saved without the need of new engine any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks

You say well looked after - has it got a FULL Ford service history?

And I hope you don't mind me asking, but is the oil level OK?  If the engine is covered in oil due to a leak and there is now insufficient oil in the engine, that might explain the symptoms...

If that is the case and you can get the leak fixed, then happy days, provided the engine hasn't been damaged too much by running it without oil.  Personally, I wouldn't drive the car at all until it's fixed.

My advice is: Change the oil, clean the engine, we buy any car it👍

Agreed - this is also a reasonable approach.

I guess this is a question of what could you get for the car as it stands, versus value in A1 condition and what it would cost to get there.

The elephant in the room is that even if the engine were otherwise sound, at 10 years it is due for a change of cambelt which is a big job on these engines and around £1500 at a main dealer.

Lowest price we have seen for a new engine is here: https://pumaspeed.co.uk/product-Brand-New-Ford-Service-10-EcoBoost-Engine_18898.jsp

All in all, Dave's suggestion may be the way to go.

Alternatively there are people who advertise to purchase non runners such as: https://cashforcars.co.uk/sell-my-non-runner-car/
