Ford Focus St Line X 2019 - Wireless charger?

Featured Replies

I’ve just bought a Focus St Line X 2019, it’s absolutely stunning and drives brilliant.

I was under the impression that all Focus have wireless charging from 2019 on? Mine is a 19 plate.

Can someone share some light into it please? I appreciate all the help and looking forward to browsing these forums!

Thanks

No, not a standard feature on your model.

Ahh fair enough! Is it something that can be fitted?

Thanks

Yeah i'm one of those frustrated MKIV buyers who took the option of the charging pad (it was the one option I could afford)

It's honestly ridiculous and incredibly badly designed and not fit for purpose. Not only is the charging pad charging zone quite small it also leaves a massive open area around it for the phone to easily slide of the sweet spot so you get the oh so annoying sync 3 message.

Now maybe you guys can correct me if I'm wrong but when you get that message advising you that your phone is no longer charging because it's moved 1 cm of the charging spot you then have to click 'OK' on the screen, again super frustrating, if it just stopped charging that would be fair enough as I'd probably take a corner in a minute or so and the phone would slide back into place but to have to continue to confirm that it's not charging is madness.

In addition to the feeling that you've wasted £100 on a really badly designed wireless charging pad I have now discovered another sore point.

You connect your phone via the usb cable but place it on the wireless charging pad, after all that's the space for the phone and you switch on in my case android auto however even though you're connected via cable as soon as your phone moves of the charging pad SYNC 3 throws you out of android auto to inform charging has terminated..aaaaagggghhhhh

Honestly I just want to disconnect it so I can have a standard storage bin for a phone where I can use android auto without disconnects and no have that nagging feeling I've been duped.

Rant over 😉

One last thing, thought I'd found a fix, I have one of those super thin super tacky phone pads, you can place them around the house or on the dash and they sort of stick to the plastic and your phone sits on top without moving. Well this sort of worked in that I placed it on the charging zone, then placed the phone on top…..got the message phone is wirelessly charging, great I thought however the sticky pad didn't stick to the wireless charging area too well, I suspect due to the dimples...…...oh well onwards and upwards.

Seems to be highly dependent on phone and case.

My old phone in a case was no problem ever.

New phone keeps prompting the message in it's case (even though it's the same style case as before), but out of the case it's fine.

Why not just plug the phone into the USB under the arm rest....its got nowhere to move too once its placed inside 🤔

I don't have a problem with my phone as it fits in a custom holder on the side of the centre consul and has a lead connected to the USB port at the front.

I think that @Gursx fancied adding a wireless charging mat to his 2019 Focus but reports on the forum seem to be quite mixed, and personally I doubt it brings any major benefit.

There is a simple fix with the new shaped rubber mat you can buy from Ford for around a tenner

Thanks for the help everyone. I’ve done some research and it doesn’t seem worth it as I prefer Carplay anyway.

Appreciate the help.

Already got that. Just doesn’t seem to get on with my new phone and case.

Phone USB ports seem to be pretty weak.  If people are plugging their phone in every time they get in the car that's going to accelerate wear on the port.

I've been trying to find a cheap phone with wireless charging as it always seems to be the charge port that fails on my phones despite being a fairly low user and only charging twice a week at home.

I don't know what you're doing with your phones, Tom. I use a 7-year-old Samsung S5 which I charge on average every 3 days and haven't had any problems with the port.

Maybe I'm just heavy handed!!  In fairness, I've only had cheap phones so far, Motorola currently, but I assumed the ports would be all be roughly the same quality.

Well, to be fair my wife bought a cheaper Samsung at about the same time and she did have problems with the cable constantly falling out of the port so maybe it's a case of you get what you pay for. The S5 was a high-end phone at the time which I bought SIM-free and it's justified it's price as I haven't needed to replace it.

I wouldn't know tbh as I don't think I've ever used the USB ports in the car.
