Focus mk4 1.5tdci Auto BELT SNAPPED

Featured Replies

Hi all. Bought a focus mk4 1.5tdci st-x line 68 plate with 65,000 on the clock 3 months ago

warranty ran out Saturday…. Sunday morning I’ve started the car up and the timing belt (presumed) has snapped. Nothings Turning under the oil filled cover when trying to start up… had the car recovered home until it can be fixed.

mechanic and RAC are a saying a belt snappage that’s without much inspection

has anyone had the timing belt snap at 70k miles when there supposed to be 120,000 or ten years?

are these engines interference engines or will be it a complete top end? heard some new engines don’t smash them selves to pieces anymore

Thank you

If you bought it from a business the “warranty” is 6 months. Consumer rights act effectively gives you 6 months protection as the burden of proof is on the seller to prove that it wasn’t on its way out when they sold it to you.

Check out citizens advice, read up on your rights and take it back.

If the warranty ran out on Saturday then the belt snapped on Saturday, not Sunday.

Good luck

If you purchased the vehicle with finance then I would complain to the finance company and the place of purchase and see what you can get out of them
