Quick clear front screen fault?

Featured Replies

Hi

i have a 1.25 2014 zetec fiesta

I noticed that the front screen was heating up without me pushing the button on the dash.

The light on the dash wasn’t on so it somehow turned on by itself.. the screen was warm too so it was definitely on. Also I noticed it was on as it kind of makes the screen look wavy when you look out of it whilst its heating.

I’m in the uk and it’s  15 degrees outside so unless it’s set to automatically come on below 15 which makes no sense as it’s not cold yet.

Is this a common fault / easily fixed ?

thanks

Never heard of heated screen being automatic.  It’s not normal.  I’ve not heard of this happening in all the years I have read these Ford forums. I am thinking maybe the relay has got stuck.

The heated screens can come on automatically in the Focus, so I'd assume the Fiesta is setup in the same way.

On the Mk2 Focus it was only when temps were below 4c I think (cold enough for the snowflake warning) but I do remember a lot of discussion about it, and seemingly not all of them came on automatically from the factory.  On later models it's possibly setup differently.  15c does seem way too high for it to be coming on though.  Are your temp sensors working correctly?  Also have you got the blowers aimed at the windscreen?

ah ok. No I didn’t have the blowers on at all.. I’m wondering if the electrics are playing up as a few weeks back all the electrics cut out whilst the airbag sign was showing. Started working again after turning the car off and back on.

but yesterday the car dials we’re jumping around when I first turned the car on for a few seconds.

It’s been fine today so I have no idea.. I’m thinking some electrics / wiring issue maybe

Hello Steven, on a 2011 Fiesta you most likely have one of two (or may be even a bit of both) common problems.

(a) Fault with the soldering on the instrument cluster caused by the poor quality lead-free solder that was used at the time. Th esolder joints start to crack and fail, leading to all sorts of random faults. The fix is quite simple. Remove the instrument cluster and send it to one of the many companies that refurbish them (less than £100).

(b) You have a problem with the Body Control Module (BCM) which is part of the passenger compaertment fuesbox. There is very often problems with water ingress in to the BCM causing the pins of the connectors and the circuit board to corrode. Disconnect the negative lead from the battery before investigating. Check the connectors for signs of greenish corrosion.

Hi @unofix it’s a 2014 zetec.
my 2011 got written off back in may😅
need to update it somehow on here.

but I’m guessing it would be the same issues.

thanks! If it happens again I’ll take it In to get repaired.
