Transit T280 2002 MK6 Sliding door won't open from outside

Hi there all,

The sliding door on my Transit T280 won't open from the outside, and needs to be pushed near the locking mechanism while pulling the handle on the inside in order to open. I took the locking mechanism out and found that the outdoor handle does not cause the latch to move at all, nor does the inside handle despite both the cables pulling on the mechanism, before I go and spend a load of money on a new lock mechanism I was wondering if this is what would be causing the issue or would it be something to do with the cables instead?
