70 plate MHEV - Servicing

Featured Replies

Do I need to go to Ford to service?

Rang a local independent garage I normally use and when they took the reg, they said my Focus was a hybrid and they dont have the equipment to service it and also that it doesn't take oil.

Am I right in thinking they have confused it for an electric or plug-in hybrid somehow? Hoping it's just a *****-up by the receptionist and that I don't need to pay the local dealer a premium to service.

Servicing is no different to non mhev. Exactly the same. No precautions required. They are indeed confusing with plug in hybrids etc. But even those are pretty much the same for servicing.

Do any of those not take oil?

The 48v hybrid system was specifically designed to be 'low voltage' so that any normal mechanic could work on them.  Doesn't need to be a hybrid trained mechanic like a Toyota etc.

Only difference I can see with MHEV servicing is a replacement auxiliary belt every 4 years.  (Due to the electric motor strain presumably.)  Oil, filters and spark plugs are all the same as non-MHEV.

Thought that would be the case, but wasn't 100% after the garage's reaction.

Cheers all!
