Engine not switching off

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, bit of an odd one, well, for me anyway! My 2011 Focus CDTI 1600, engine will not stop running when key removed from ignition. If I stall it to stop engine, the ignition remains on.

However, if I put on handbrake, than take it off, the engine will stop running and ignition goes off! Any ideas?

That's a new one on me, sorry

This is one of (very few!) situations where I'd recommend just taking it to a Ford dealer.

Chances are it's a wiring or module fault which could take ages for an indy garage to diagnose.  Auto electrician should find the problem eventually but will charge high rates to go through everything methodically, unless they've seen this exact fault on the same model previously.

Well this adds a whole new level to problems of Stop/Start not working 🤣

earlier this year I had a problem with an Ecosport that started by itself and wouldn't switch off but that is totally different to your problem. I think you are going to need the problem looked at by a good auto electrician.

Same problem here. Would any other garage fix it, as don`t want to go to my local Ford?... awful service the last 2 times

Any Ford specialists near you?  The other option is an independent auto electrician but they charge a high hourly rate and may take a long time diagnosing the fault.

I have used them twice and not only they are fixing the issue-it is getting worse I think( different problem in the past ). I mean would an independent garage will manage to find the reason? It happened only 2 times last week but really worry me....

Is it a dealership or specialist you're using?  They're not the same thing.

I doubt an independent garage would have much luck diagnosing this type of fault.  They don't generally have the Ford specific diag tools or the electrical expertise.

Thanks troops, I will let you know of any fix

I know its a different year, but is something like this likely to  happen on a 2011 car? ...
