Service time

Featured Replies

Hi. Probably been asked many times..but what's due at a 4 yrs service on a 1.0 125 focus?

Well, according to my local stealer, "LOADS MORE" but when I asked them to itemise the "LOADS MORE" over the standard service, they just kept saying "on a four year service we need to do lots more"

OK,

Do you change the coolant? - No that's extra

Do you change the fuel; filter? - No that's extra

Do you change the air filter - No

Do you change the spark plugs? - No

Do you change the transmission fluid - That's sealed for life😄🤨

Do you change the brake fluid? - No that's extra

Do you plug into IDS and check and update any software - OMG no, that's extra

P155 off then

They don't do anything more, at all, take it to a cheaper independent

Spark plugs and air filter are included on a 4th year service when the car is on 2 yearly servicing.

So replacement items are oil, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, spark plugs.  Then 'loads more' checks, such as wheels-off brake checks etc.  They may also do you a deal with the MOT if you ask nicely.

Absolutely everything you mentioned there was extra, over and above the "LOADS MORE" they have to do on a 4 year service, including the MOT it needed

Those things are stated very clearly in the service schedule which can be printed from ETIS.  (Or could, until last week when they've blocked us peasants from accessing it).

Also, as yours is a 2017, that'll still be on yearly servicing, meaning plugs and air filter are on the 3 year service in your case.

I'm just telling you what they told me, they didn't change plugs @36  because they're 60,000 miles and air filter 48,000

They don't do anything extra, at all, they're a bunch of con artists,, they just change the oil & filter (I hope) and charge extra

They don't even take the wheels off until you need brakes

Sounds like you have a dodgy dealership tbh.

At least during the warranty period they have to complete Fords scheduled servicing which was all available online until very recently.  Shows all the checks, all the replacements and all of the 'optional' items that can be chosen as well.  'Wheels-off' etc is specifically detailed in the schedule.  Ford don't use a standard system of major and minor servicing, so we did have to individually check what was included on each service.  Though I can roughly remember the common engines.  Frustrating that it's been removed now.

So I guess the answer for the OP is contact the dealership and ask them to specify what THEY will change on the 4th year service.

Not to take this thread off-topic, but I'm very intrigued by what would actually be done on the 1st (2 yearly) service on my own MHEV.  It's only done 125 miles and the oil quality still shows 100%.  BUT the specified servicing is mandatory for the warranty and the finance agreement.

It's possible that the oil quality would drop dramatically if it was actually driven to the dealership.  But if not...can they reset it when it's at 100%?  And would they really feel no guilt in just pretending to change the oil and charging £250 just to give it a courtesy wash? :whistling:

I'm still planning on getting rid of it before the service is due, but considering how my other plans have gone over the last couple of years, that's probably unrealistic.

They're all dodgy mate, hence my comment and the fact that I'd never buy a Ford again

They'll fetch the sandwiches in it, drop the sponge on the floor then wash it

I did work at a Ford MD for a while.  Servicing was being carried out properly there.  Though it was 10 years ago now.

I've had at least one bad experience at pretty much every indy or chain I've used, wouldn't trust any of them.  I generally live by the mantra - "If you want something done properly, do it yourself!"  However when you can't do it yourself for whatever reason, you're stuck leaving it in someone else's hands and dealing with the consequences afterwards.

Must be a posh dealership if they've got sponges.  Stained, gritty rags is the norm here.   Can watch the forecourt valets literally scraping swirls into 50+ approved used cars with a single rag and half a bucket of dirty water.
