Rattling noise when revving down the engine

Featured Replies

Morning folks!

I got my hands on a 2020 Focus Ecoboost 1.0L (ST Line) with 26k miles and I started noticing worrying noises when the engine is idle and I give it some gas and then let go. It rattles when in reaches the lower part of the rev range and then goes away.

Not sure if it's a normal thing or not... I'm trying to get the dealership to check this but they are giving me apointments in 2 weeks minimum (and I want to know if this is an issue before my 14 day cool off period runs off)

Here you have a video where you can hear the rattle before the engine settles in idle: https://photos.app.goo.gl/SfB6bpmDG8x9Snei7

Thanks!

The car is a 2020 so must still be under Fords warranty for at least one more year. Also it is a legal requirement of all garages and traders to give you a 6 month warranty although most will try and claim only 3. So I'm not quite sure of your concern over the cooling off period.

Buying a used Ecoboom 1.0 is always a trip in to the unknown, but I can't hear on the video the rattle you are saying is there. Are you buying from a Ford dealership ?

Hey, I mentioned the cooling-off period because if this is a serious issue, I'm just tempted to get a refund and look somewhere else...

Bought it from Allen Ford in Warwick.

On the rattle, you can hear it right when the engine revs down (before settling in idle)

My 2020 focus is making the exact same noise. Does anyone know if it’s anything to worry about?

I have the same noise on my 2020 fiesta.

was wondering if anyone knows what it is now?

I think it’s the wastegate on the Turbo. No idea if it’s normal or not but I’m not impressed.
