Connector behind button blank on console - what is it?

Hi all,

I was looking for a place to site a USB input socket from my Sony head unit, and thought the button blanks either side of the demister buttons might be good. When I popped them there was a connector behind the one on the left -- it was clicked into place on the blanking plate, but obviously no external socket/button. Anyone know what it is and whether it could be of use?
