Is the oil service light done on time also?

As I changed my oil in November last year and I’ve only done about 8k and my oil service light has come on. Is it also done on time as it’s been almost a year since I last reset it? I assumed it was just done on mileage. Mk 2.5 tdci

    My old 2011 mk2.5 Focus service reminder came on every year, did about 10k miles a year.

    Ah it must do it on time then. Wasn’t sure if time would work for example if had flat battery etc it would lose track?
