Ford cost cutting on Mk4.5 Focus titanium

Featured Replies

So replaced my MK4 titanium Focus last week, with a new Mk4.5 titanium Focus, and apart from the new body styling, Ford seem to have cut back on a few little extras that were standard on the Mk4.

List of differences between MK4 and MK4.5

EXTERIOR

  • bonnet, front grill and front lower spoiler, restyled.
  • Front Fog Lamps removed and integrated into headlamps
  • New all LED front Headlights.
  • No cover over drivers door key lock
  • Keyless door sensors removed on both rear doors
  • new smoked glass rear LED lights.
  • New Alloy wheel design

INTERIOR

  • No ambient lighting in front footwells
  • No chrome protection plates on front door lower footwells
  • No USB port in Centre console rear storage box
  • No Rear floor mats
  • No Sunglasses holder in roof
  • climate controls removed and included in SYNC 4 touchscreen
  • No play/pause Fwd/Bkd buttons on dashboard
  • New Sync 4 13.2" Touchscreen with wireless Android auto, Apple carplay
  • USB-C port added above USB-A port, in front centre console.
  • No physical manual or service book.  (Manual now digital and built into sync 4 screen)
  • drive mode button no Longer toggles through drive mode, but brings up Drive mode screen on SYNC 4 unit then you have to touch screen to select mode.
  • Steering feels a bit lighter, may be down to different tyres with increased air pressure (from 33psi to 38psi)
  • engine start/stop button moved to lower middle of dashboard
  • Speed Sign recognition, tweaked.
  • Wake word added to start speech recognition, you can now say "OK Ford" to start speech recognition, without having to press voice button on steering wheel.
  • couple of software bugs fixed.  (hold parking system turned off if you switched engine off but don't get out of car, then restart engine).  Now stays active.
  • More voice commands added (You can now control temp of climate control by saying "Set Temperature to xxx")

Overall, the car feels and drives the same as the MK4.  Have to say the SYNC 4 system is a huge improvement over the SYNC 3.  apart from a larger screen, the Sat Nav is so much better and more responsive, and you now can use Ford Sat nav if you have either Android auto or Apple carplay running.

IMHO having the new SYNC 4 and LED Headlights compensates for the small extras that no longer come with the Titanium.

And lastly cost.  I paid £21,000 for the Mk 4 titanium 3 years ago and just over £25,000 for the new mk4.5 (with winter pack and drivers pack added)

Its a shame that this will be the Last Focus Ford is making, and the end of a legacy.  You will be missed.

Have Ford said the Focus is no more, like with the Fiesta?

Some of things you’ve listed happened during the mk4 life not for the facelift.
The rear keyless door sensors were removed in 2019, mine doesn’t have them. Although I find it quite useful to check the car is locked.
USB port changes also happened during mk4 production.
The mk4 only gets a sunglasses holder if you have the glass roof. This hasn’t changed.

Yes production ends 2024 and it will not be replaced.

All new models ready for electrification then 😞
