Engine Malfunction warning now won't start

Featured Replies

My usually very reliable 2011 Mk2 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI has let me down big time. It was running great then suddenly the engine malfunction warning came on, I managed to roll it to the edge of the road and it just wouldn't start. Whilst waiting for recovery the battery seemed to die with only hazards on, bought it home and recharged the battery, now the malfunction warning has gone but still it turns over but doesn't even attempt to start. I used an fault code reader but no fault codes shown, checked every fuse and nothing. It has got me stumped, any suggestions gratefully received thanks

Generic code readers (even good ones) will not read all Ford specific DTC's.

Use FORScan and a good ELM327 lead to check for codes.

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

ELM327(modified) lead: https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/USB_Modified_with_switch_ELM327/p4541936_17045457.aspx

Thanks, lead ordered and software downloaded. Thanks for the advice

Obviously as others have said scan with what youve ordered.

Years ago we used to have many of these diesel mk2 with no codes non start, as im sure all on here will be aware of the faulty instrument clusters, i always found if you gave the top of the dash a firm wack directly above the speedo it would start and fast track confirming the fault.

Also used to suffer with corroded multi plugs in fuse box in passenger foot well.
