Injector issue

Featured Replies

Hi all

Having a little injector issue on my 2009 focus 1.8tdci

Number 3 is clearly leaking with alot of carbon build up visible with a bit of engine wobble now

My question to you all is

Are they hard to take out myself to change seals, check there working etc and am i better replacing injectors or have them reconditioned

Thanks in advance

Niall

When they leaked on my 1.6tdci I just tightened them up and that cured it. Of course don’t go too tight because if you strip / snap something it will be a disaster. If leaking for a long time there’s less chance this will fix it. But you might as well try

I've tighten them already but hadn't stopped the issue, looks like they'll have to come out to replace the seals

If you are going to do it yourself it might be worth investing in an injector seat cutter / cleaner set as it sounds like it has been leaking for a while and may have damaged the seat in the head, also avoid cheap copper seals as they can be a bit hard so don’t seal as well.

I had a feeling I'd have to buy something for this project, never thought of the seat cutter for some reason

Are the injectors hard to remove

I’ve not taken any out of a 1.8 tdci but have taken them out of several other engines but should be fairly easy. Main thing is cleanliness make sure no dirt gets in the injectors or pipes, clean around the injectors and pipes best you can before you start.
