Jump Start Wrong Connection, now Transsmission Fault showing on dashboard.

Featured Replies

2010 Keyless Focus.

Son in Law tried to jump start and tells me he had the leads he wrong way round.

I have jump started this car many times with no problem at all.

The central dashboard red LED display shows a spanner and TRANSSMISSION FAULT. Operating the push button start has no effect. We tried disconnecting the battery for a few mins and dashboard comes back quite normal showing mileage saying reset clock, bonnet open etc but then reverts back to TRANSSMISSION FAULT.

Really stuck, any advice please.

Blown fuse somewhere

There is a very good chance that this is only the tip of the iceberg. 😧

Reverse polarity of the vehicles electrics often doesn't end well.  Re-disconnect the battery and leave it off for one hour before trying again. If that fails to reset the situation then you will have to get FORScan and start and see what Ford specific DTC's are stored. Take a photo of them, I expect there will be quite a lot. Clear all DTC's and say your prayers. There is a fair chance the TCM is damaged, possibly the ECU and the alternator.

Much to my surprise and pleasure, I have sorted the problem.

Went to fuse box in engine, initially frustrated because what looked like significant fuses, were big square things and could find no way of removing. In desperation I noticed one standard slot-in type labelled auto transmission, 3 amp. Strange because the car is not automatic but significant because the dashboard fault says Transmission Malfunction. Tested faulty, replaced and car immediately back to normal, started straight away.

I think we have been lucky and hopefully my son in law has learnt a lesson.
