2013 automatic issue?

Featured Replies

So i was picking a family member up so pulled up fully stopped with my foot on the brake and shifted from D to P and the car shook and vibrated and it was just weird but only lasted for a few seconds, first time this has happened since owning the car for around a year now, anything to be concerned about? it wasn't a massive vibration i am not sure how to describe it but its never done it before when i have put the car in park or moved the gear selector to say N or S. I am not impressed with the gearbox at all since owning the car it seems hesitant among other things, but this has really taken me by surprise and now has me worried something in the gearbox is on its way out or is it maybe just one of them things? when i set off again and moved the selector from P to D it was normal and acted like it always does and i didn't hear any noises or feel any vibration.

.... and the last time you had the Automatic gearbox fully serviced by Ford was when ?

And what engine is the focus so we know what gearbox you have.

Engine is the 1.6 petrol and the clutch pack was changed only 3,000 miles ago, first time i have had the car do it and only did it while moving from drive to park when i set off again the car drove like it normally does.

Are you 100% sure that you had fully stopped? I don't mean 99% sure 😉

The symptoms you experienced could happen if either....

a. you put the box into Park while still moving (even at 2mph) or

b. you got too close to the wall or hedge at the end of the parking  space and the Active City Stop feature kicked in. I have had this happen twice, and it is terrifying - the system slams on the brakes harder than you could ever do yourself!  (and of course triggers the ABS).  I'm assuming that you do have ACS, but you may not have.

DSG, AKA ford's Powershift is not an auto - its a manual (with a computer playing on the clutches), they were all faulty in various degrees of disaster until July 2016 build - suffering from oil leaks, software, electronic control unit, mechanical and clutch material defects

If its a powershift - as per other posts get the wiring checked out as per the post linked - and if that's normal try a reset on the clutch packs - no doubt they fitted some crap and its bedded in and needs its brain calibrating ?

Aside from reversing - On a conventional Auto you only ever move an auto to Neutral or Park when planning to take the key out - other behaviours destroy the gearbox

On many a recent car, the latest trick they employed on the modern conventional auto's is for the Torque Convertor lock up clutch to fail (an invention circa 1990) that moves the drive from total slush box 97% efficient to 100% drive on light throttle cruising - then they realised its a nice little earner - on some brands its designed to fail and these can cause an issue close to what you describe where it remains locked one to one - and you come to a rest and the car doesn't like too - more normal is issues when trying to pull away, with them stalling when cold

no idea if the last one affects fords

on some brands its designed to fail

Can you tell us which brands, please. Thanks.

every Mercedes for a start - its just economics - to maintain profitability with ALL german workers wanting a benefits package that costs 50k per employee every year, everything MUST be designed to self destruct so they sell more cars

they are ALL on this with merc working out the need in 1995, BMW by 2000 and VAG by 2003

if your really want to get excited, just imagine two parts bins on the production line, UK range use these cheap parts and sensors with a 2.5 year life expectancy, german market 3.5 year.  in the old days you'd have other factories making the same things with an 8 and 15 year parts bin to support markets where you needed to grow your reputation - but the accountants worked on that waste - turns out the marketing budgets can be used instead, and you can peddle utter cr#p worldwide to total fools

Never wondered how the same cars made with a skoda badge play up at year 6, the seat's at year 5, VW at year 3, and Audi 2 years?  How does it work? Audi's are leased to halfwits and the idea is its chopped in for another one with more bling before it plays up for the first owner... the delays clearing the rubbish and the fools buying at auction means the pile of dust moves on just as the three year warranty expires...   and now YOU can pay for the repairs through after market warranties

the idea is theft and planetary destruction - for profit

Can't be that daft?

a clue - the numbers of the badge on the back indicate the price of the bill each visit

Ah, thanks for explaining that.  I'll make sure the next car I buy is built by workers who are poorly paid, then it will be more reliable.
