My auxiliary drive belt has started slipping in the wet so I am going to change it at the weekend, just wondering if its common practice to change the tensioner at the same time?

    Not common practice. 

    Though a tight new belt can finish off a tensioner on its last legs so don't be surprised if it needs replacing soon after.
