ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE.

Featured Replies

twice recently the engine malfunction warning message has been displayed, any one know why.  On both occasions I switched off the car then restarted without any problem or message.

Possibly we might just need a 'tad' more information !

You either need to use FORScan and get the DTC's or this is going to involve mystic Meg and her crystal ball.

Not quite ready for forscan yet. I have a fault code reader that shows no problem as does the message file built into the car.  I don't want to spend money on the car due to it being 12 years old. I may try changing the fuel filter, but no further than that it has 3 months MOT and wont pass because of corrosion on rear anti roll bar. It is time for it to be recycled, pity it has been a very reliable car other than one door ajar switch. The car is a 1600 petrol  hatchback  Titanium.

2010 Focus ? Try whacking the dash above the instrument cluster. If errors come up, could be solder joints in the cluster.
Failing that, dtcs via Forscan.

U tube tip of using key and brake/ accelerator pressing has cleared the fault. Not returned on a thirty mile journey.

I had the identical fault on our same-age car and it was the instrument cluster solder problem. I fixed it myself at no cost.
