Main beam fails when cornering.

Featured Replies

2015 Titanium X Nav.
when cornering left, the cornering light comes on and main beam on left goes out but does not come back on when straightening up. I then have to turn lights off and on to reset it. Why is this happening and any fix?

Might be worth checking wiring to the bulb, and the wiring to the switch, if you haven't done already.

Could it simply be the bulb on its way out?

The dipped beam headlights and the cornering lights are both controlled by the Body Control Module. There are no fuses for either circuit and so are protected by an automatic over current device in the BCM. I suspect you have a fault with the corning light, possibly a damaged wiring harness causing an excess current demand and therefore the BCM shuts down the circuit.

Check the wiring to both the corning light and the headlight. Just for test purposes remove the lamp from the corning light and see it the problem with the headlight still continues.

Could be the bulb, but usually they just go. That's only my opinion.

I have not had a car with cornering lights. Can you turn them off in the settings? If so, does headlamp then work fine?

Yes you can turn them off using FORScan, it was probably the very first thing I used FORScan for on my Mk4

turns out i need a new Ballast cable from ballast to bulb like this as the cable is indeed frayed. Any suggestions in the UK to buy from or even a ford part number? I’m not really sure what I’m asking for but apparently it’s this in the photo

So i spoke to 3 different Ford parts department.
"im looking to get the cable that goes from the HID Xenon Headlight Ballast control unit to the bulb.
Also described as D3S D3R D3C HID Ballast Connect Xenon Bulb Wire Harness Adapters Socket Plug Connector."

Each say its not sold separately but part of the Front Body Loom - £700!!

I believe that is a safety device built into the software of the HCM.

Your headlamps, due to being Xenon, are controlled by the HCM, not BCM as in Halogen models.

The driver is responsible tfor activating the main/high beam so if you have main beam on, even though the HCM is programmed  to activate cornering lights, it is up to you to put main beam back on again. UNLESS you have auto high beam function

I could be wrong though😃
