Buying Advice - Ford Focus Estate

Featured Replies

Hi, my (elderly) parents want to purchase a petrol Focus Estate, likely a 1.6. They have a Fusion at the moment, 2006, but are looking for something a little bigger and newer. They would prefer the Zetec engines rather than the EcoBoost, so, am I right in thinking those only go up to 2012? Any pointers on reliability, what to look for etc., please? Thanks.

You have very wise parents.

The 1.6 Zetec was only available till 2011 as far as I know, although you might find an odd 2012 registered model.

The 1.6 Zetec was still used in the Mk3 Focus.

Choice of either 105bhp in basic trims.  Or 125bhp with Ti-VCT on higher trims.

The 1.6 EcoBoost was 150 or 180bhp.  So any 1.6 with less than that is a Zetec engine.

Mk3 to 2012 with a manual 5 speed, you can get the Mk3.5 with the 1.6 Ti-VCT but only with the Powershift auto transmission - not particularly well thought of that one.

Yes, the common 'Eco-Boom' analogy is enough for me! I will have a good look around for a late 2011 early 2012 one, cheers.
