Ford focus MK2 door latch issue

Featured Replies

Hi all

New to this forum, just after some advice. Recently purchased a focus (PRIVATELY)

Main issue is the front passenger door, doesn't seem to shut properly. You have to really slam it with some force in order for it shut all the way. My partner has told me it's now opening whilst she's driving (not fully)

I've tried adjusting the striking plate and lubricating the hinge in the door.

Has anyone got any ideas ? I haven't had a chance to take the door card off and fully check behind the door but the latch seems OK, can move up and down with a screwdriver.

Understand its a 57 reg car so will have issues but just concerned for my partner whilst she's driving

Thanks for your help

Hi Tony, did you ever get to the bottom of this?

Thanks

If the door is too hard to close you can try moving the door striker plate outboard - after slackening the 2 bolts off it will move if you give it a decent tap with a plastic mallet or similar.

Mark ip where it aligned before you move it, and bear in mind that moving the striker outboard you may end up with the edge of the door not flush to the body side/rear door and in extreme cases the door seals leaking as they’re not compressed enough.
