How long does the car stay powered for after switching on the ignition?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to add footwell lights to my ford focus 2013 but having trouble finding a fuse to tap in the passenger fuse box.

Initially I attempted to tap fuse F67 which my vehicle book shows as the GPS, Bluetooth and phone call module. However after applying a fuse tap, the footwell lights continue to stay lit for a good 10+ minutes.

I did test the fuse with a multimeter before turning the switch on to test the lights, and it seemed like it was an ignition fuse.

Another provisional fuse I could use is the light in the glove compartment / cigar lighter, but I'm assuming that is a constant one as the light comes on any time the glove box is opened.

Attached is the list of fuses, it gives no indication whatsoever of what is a constant and what is ignition fuse,

With the ignition now off, seemingly every fuse in the compartment which has terminals to test, has a voltage.

Is there a period of time when the power stops going to the fuses ? Or will I need to apply some sort of switch to my footwell circuit to stop power consumption?

On a separate matter, am I correct in what I am doing ? I have the original fuse in the bottom of the add a fuse, my new 5.0 amp fuse for my lights in the top, with the tap red wire to red wire on my lights and then the black return wire gets grounded on the metal.

Hi . Do you mean "after switching OFF the ign"?

If so, I think it's about 15-20 minutes if it's working properly. Others on here will soon be along with an exact answer 😉

Thanks Alan. 30 mins later, I have unlocked the car, tested again and still drawing current. In fact every fuse I have tested is drawing current.

Maybe the fact that the car is unlocked and door open is drawing current to all fuses . Might try adding the lights back in, locking the car and then waiting a good half an hour.

Opening the door does wake up modules.  As does unlocking.

Reattached the lights let's see what happens in half an hour. If it still stays on might buy a switch to turn it off and on

Tapped F85 (I think), that one actually seems to turn on and off with the ignition. The others must have been constant power. All working fine now

Find the circuits for the interior lights in the headliner and break into them, they will come on and fade off with the interior lights
