Hi I have a Mk2.5 Focus 2.0 Tdci on a 10 plate. It's a titanium model with keyless entry, stop/ Start button.

 

I've owned the car for 2 years and it's always had this intermitten problem with the car not responding to the kkey. Every now and then when I leave the car and lock it (tried both key and button on handle) the car fails to lock and when I return to the car it does not detect the key.

 

The first time it happened the AA came and diagnosed a weak car battery, after a week the fault came back. The second time the AA diagnosed a fault with a cluster so I had the whole cluster soldered by a auto electrician. I Have 2 keys and each time this has happened I've replaced the 2023 battery's on both keys.

Forums say there should be a place inside the centre arm rest or side of steering wheel where you should be able to hold the key to bypass the keyless start but I cannot find a local in my car.

The fault remains unsolved at the moment, had a key guy come out and he said the keys are fine, left the battery disconnected all night and even took of cluster and had it cleaned out with electrical contact cleaner.

Has anyone had this problem before or come across it? Would really appreciate help and advice as I don't know what this can be.

Using a multimeter what is the car battery voltage measured at the terminals ?
