Focus limp mode

Hi today while driving on dual carriage way I was overtaking a car then all of a sudden a warning flashed up engine malfunction please service it just popped up and went off and the car was in limp mode I pulled over turned off and back on  all power was back but on the way home it happened again 3 times it was  most times when I got between 60 - 70 mph does anyone have any idea what could be causing this it's a 12 reg 1.6d focus thanks

Well it could be one of a thousand things. If you want to know exactly what the problem is you need to get the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

Get a laptop and download the software FORScan (its free). Then you will need an ELM327(modified) cable. Once you have those you can connect up and read the DTC's of which I expect there will be a few.
