2021 Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost - What type of belt?

Featured Replies

I have searched, but my IT skills are lacking. Do the learned people on here know what type of belt a 2021 125bhp Focus has? I have read that it doesn't have a wet timing belt that plagues and kills the older models? just the oil pump belt is wet? Or is it just not worth the risk? Thanks.

Hi,

This engine has a timing chain and a wet belt for the oil pump.  I have 2020 1.0 focus so time will tell how long the engine will last.  I intend to  change the oil very frequently to keep it clean.

If the turbo is at the front of the engine, the heat shields around it should be obvious, then  its got a wet cam belt.

If the turbo is hidden at the rear of the engine with the inlet manifold at the front it has a cam chain.

Your quite safe !!

A Focus 2004 model does not have a wet belt, or is your profile out of date ? 🤔

Its way out of date, I am looking at a 2021 Focus. Got close to being caught out with the belt with my last one (2014) but don't fancy the niggling feeling if the newer models are the same.

What was the point  of switiching to a timing chain? I thought it was the oil pump belt that caused most of the clogging anyway?

It's the cambelt teeth that clog the oil pump. Most garages don't bother with the oil belt at all when the cambelt was due on the wet belt engines unless you explicitly ask because it seemingly lasts longer. Obviously using the wrong oil etc will degrade that too but the choice of keeping it a wet belt suggests the failure rate is lower
